The Roaring '20s part 2: Jupiter in Taurus ~ May '23 to '24

On May 16th, 2023, Jupiter left the fiery sign of Aries for the more down-to-earth sign of Taurus. The ancient "king of the gods" and the biggest planet in our solar system will stay in the sign of the bull until May 25th, 2024. Here's what to expect, both in general and for your sign.

Jupiter's transit through the sign of Aries in the latter half 0f 2022 and the starting half of 2023 coincided with a war between Russia and Ukraine that many believe to be the start of World War 3. Meanwhile, rising prices in other parts of the world led to rising anger against the competitive, capitalistic economy but also a rise in entrepreneurship and an influencer-led economy, inspiring people to be bold and go after what is best for them. Will Jupiter's journey through Taurus be calmer in comparison, giving way to peace and economic growth, or will it add a more stubborn and rigid attitude to an already divided world?

Taurus is a fixed, earth sign ruled by the planet, Venus, blessing the sign of the bull with a sensual yet practical nature. Jupiter is the planet of luck and fortune, as well as religion and philosophy, bringing growth and abundance to whatever it touches. With Jupiter in Taurus, we can expect business to flourish, finances to stabilize, people to be secure and enjoyment to increase. Small businesses launched while Jupiter was in Aries may grow into bigger companies. As astrologer Jessica Adams has pointed out, many major companies, such as McDonalds, Cheerios and even the World Wide Web, were launched during previous Jupiter in Taurus transits, along with many bestselling movie and television franchises. Jupiter in Taurus transits have also historically been associated with economic boom after periods of economic struggle such as in 1940 after the Great Depression. Considering our current cost of living crisis, I'm sure we can all hope for a change!

The sign of Taurus is also associated with the beauty of the natural world, so in addition to fancy new products and new pop culture icons (both of which tend to coincide with Jupiter in Taurus transits), we might discover an abundance of natural resources and create a more sustainable economy. In general, we might see a growing trend in environmentalism and natural living. Should this transit give way to a more stabilized economy for everyone, we can expect a more peaceful climate overall. After the fast-paced and busy lifestyle we experienced when Jupiter was in Aries, Jupiter's entrance into Taurus will provide us with an opportunity to slow down and "stop to smell the roses" in addition to the more material gains.

Those born with Jupiter in Taurus tend to be steadfast and firm in what they believe. While they can be hard-headed, their slow-paced and patient nature means such beliefs are almost always the result of careful consideration. They are usually drawn to philosophies that are rooted in concrete reality and belief systems that have practical use in their everyday lives. These individuals tend to pursue information through the five senses and many of them have a love for the natural world, which for some of them, in turn, influences their ethical beliefs. Jupiter in Taurus natives are more likely to be realists than dreamers but most of all, they are passionate livers! Neither the type to sleep all day or to pointlessly overwork themselves, those with Jupiter in Taurus seek to take advantage of everything the world has to offer and immerse themselves in its beauty, firmly believing that life is meant to be enjoyed! If you were born with Jupiter in Taurus (June 1928-1929, May 1940-1941, April 1952- May 1953, April 1964-1965, March 1976-April 1977, March 1988-1989, June 1999-2000 and June 2011-2012), this is your Jupiter Return which is often believed to be a time of good luck (and if you want to know more about how it will affect you personally, feel free to book a reading with me here).

Jupiter in Taurus: May 2023-2024

Throughout the course of May 2023 to 2024, Jupiter in Taurus will be making some interesting aspects, particularly to the outer planets.

First, let's talk about past transits. On May 17th, Jupiter in Taurus made a square aspect to Pluto at 0 degrees Aquarius. This is an indication of extreme behavior (or beliefs) leading to dangerous consequences. It could also indicate the revelation of secrets (Pluto in Aquarius) that disrupt our sense of security (Jupiter in Taurus). Meanwhile, on June 1st, Jupiter made a conjunction with the North Node at 3 degrees Taurus. According to modern astrology, Jupiter and the North Node are both about growth and expansion.

On a more interesting note, Jupiter in Taurus made a sextile to Saturn in Pisces on June 19th 2023, with both planets at 7 degrees of their respective signs. Saturn had just stationed retrograde two days before. At this time, the news was dominated by reports of the missing Titanic submersible that imploded on June 18th, killing everyone onboard. Saturn Retrograde in Pisces is a classic sign of things in the ocean gone wrong! The victims were billionaires who seem to have had an inflated sense of security characteristic of Jupiter in Taurus; i.e. the CEO of OceanGate reportedly ignored warnings from engineers that his company's experimental approach could lead to catastrophic disaster, sparking conversations about wealth, class, safety and the recklessness of the rich. Sometimes being too comfortable can lead to one's demise.

Jupiter will also be making a conjunction to Uranus on April 20th, 2024, at 20 degrees of the fixed earth sign. It's this transit that is perhaps the most era-defining, as a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction happens only about once ever fourteen years. According to Richard Tarnas, as cited in his book "Cosmos and Psyche," the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is a culturally liberating transit that tends to correspond with creative breakthroughs spread out across many different fields. Much of what's said, written and sung during these times is believed to possess a prophetic nature. From the paradigm-shifting scientific discoveries of Galileo and Charles Darwin to man's first step on the moon in 1969, from the iconic literature of James Joyce and Virginia Woolf along with countless other great writers to the Woodstock Festival of the 1960's, the Jupiter-Uranus cycle coincides with the 'Promethean' sort of work that changes the course of history. Last time Jupiter met Uranus was back in 2010-11, in the sign of Aries, sparking a wave of protests throughout the globe, including the Occupy Movement and the Arab Spring. But what can we expect from Jupiter's conjunction to Uranus in the sign of Taurus, specifically?

Jupiter and Uranus were last seen together in Taurus back in the early 1940's (May 7th 1941 to be exact) , shortly before Uranus's ingress into Gemini. Uranus had been transiting the fixed earth sign since 1934, shaking up the economy with a Great Depression, which was not strictly limited to the United States. It is believed that failing banks and economic disenfranchisement in Germany helped pave the way to the Nazi's rise in power. Jupiter and Uranus can sometimes indicate a "cult of personality" and by the time Jupiter met with Uranus in 1941, Hitler (a Taurus himself) was at his most powerful, as was Mussolini in fascist Italy, Stalin in the communist Soviet Union, and F.D.R, the longest serving president, in the U.S. This was the peak of World War 2, changing the world forever. However, by this time, F.D.R. had let the United States out of a Great Depression. The economy was transformed in other ways as well, with women joining the workforce to replace the men who were out at war. As mentioned before, many major corporations and products still around today were launched at this time, and groundbreaking films such as "Gone with the Wind" and "Citizen Kane" were released.

What does the previous Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Taurus tell us about our current time? Will we once again be at a world at war? I'd like to hope not but current events seem to point in that direction, with many politicians (such as Donald Trump, if he gets re-elected) possessing a cult of personality not dissimilar from the figures we saw in the early '40s. As Taurus is an earth sign, environmental events could also serve to shake up our culture. However, it's important to remember that the Jupiter-Uranus transit of 1940-41 also coincided with a Saturn-Pluto square which was a much more "negative" omen.

There is hope to be found, as well, with the current Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, as more and more people (especially young people) are fed up with the current system. I expect to see some major changes to the economy. As discussed in other articles, I foresee the introduction of a universal basic income, a possibility of rising wages and perhaps, more regulations on prices, hopefully leading to a more fair and equitable economy. On the other hand, this could also indicate the introduction of a global currency and increasing efforts to pave the way for a fully cashless society. On another note, as Taurus is ruled by Venus, planet of arts and aesthetics, we may expect to see an exciting new movement in art, fashion, film, literature and/or music, something we have not seemed to see in quite a while! People have jokingly referred to this decade as the "roaring 20's" and in fact, with an (apparent) end to the pandemic that isolated us for too long, a (hopefully) bettering economy, yet still so much to rebel against, we may see a new wave of cultural activity similar to the 1920's of yesteryear.

Jupiter in Taurus: Horoscopes

Now it's time to see how it will affect your sign. I suggest reading the horoscope for your ascendant or rising sign, first, instead of the sun. I find the rising sign horoscope to be more accurate than the sun, as these horoscopes are based on the houses. If you don't know your rising sign, click here to generate a birth chart. Yes, you will need your birth time for this. If you don't have your birth time, Sun sign horoscopes are the next best thing or you could even look at the Moon. If you want to know more about how this transit will affect you in depth, on a more personal level, click here to schedule a reading with me. Those of you with any planets or angles in cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will most especially be affected by this transit.

Aries

It seems that all of your hard work, high energy and high self-esteem has paid off well for you, Aries! With Taurus Jupiter in your 2nd house of money and finances, you can expect to reap off the rewards of what you fought for. Whether its an increase in pay, a new work opportunity or a gift from a loved one, you can expect to be living large this year. You can relish the luxury of material goods and revel in monetary security!

Taurus

With Jupiter in the 1st house of self, this is your year, dear Taurus! And thank your lucky stars! While it is possible that this past year may have been challenging for you, it likely gave you the confidence to stand on your own two feet. Your stubborn nature seems to be benefiting you now as you seem to be accomplishing whatever you set your mind to. This transit seems to be giving you the courage to go after what you want...which isn't to say that you have to. Opportunities seem to be coming your way, good things come to you easily, without you even having to ask for them. "Think positive" seems to be your mantra these days, as this year is likely to be one of fun, pleasure, safety, serendipity and enjoyment.

Gemini

Yes, you may be a social butterfly, dear Gemini, but with Taurus Jupiter in your 12th house, you're finding security within yourself. By learning to feel comfortable with your isolation, you gain a deeper awareness of what it is like to feel whole. You're used to being scattered in so many different, sometimes contradictory, directions but this transit is helping you gain a better sense of discipline, a better sense of consistency. It is a good time for meditation, yoga and other spiritual practices which require more discipline and consistency than you may be used to. It's a good time for grounding yourself, immersing yourself in nature. By doing these things, you'll gain a better sense of connection, opening yourself up to new opportunities that you never thought you'd gain.

Cancer

There's nothing wrong with wanting safety and security, but sometimes, Cancer, you can bury yourself too deeply within your shell. With Taurus Jupiter in your 11th house of friendships, it is time to come out and change that! Perhaps, you'll be joining groups and getting involved with communities you emotionally resonate with as a way to meet new people. Or maybe you're just chatting to people more often. Either way, this is a time to expand your social circle and create strong bonds. Safety and security is unlikely to be found only but in the strength of packs. Connection is necessary for our survival. Lucky for you, this is a time where you will be likely to meet like-minded and loyal people who will be there for you when you most need it.

Leo

You love the spotlight, Leo, and with Taurus Jupiter in your 10th house of career, you're finding more and more opportunities to shine! While you may be stereotyped to be all about fun, you can be a hard-worker too and this transit helps you get into that mindset, helping you to succeed beyond your wildest dreams. You may receive a raise or a promotion or an opportunity for your dream job. Some of you could even succeed by launching a new company! You're a natural born leader and this transit will help you accomplish your goals, bringing you good luck in all facets of life, feeling like you're on top of the world!

Virgo

As picky and critical as they stereotype you to be, dear Virgo, being a mutable sign tends to spread you out indifferent directions. Sometimes being picky and critical of everything makes it so you do not fit in anywhere 100%. This is particularly true when it comes to areas of religion, philosophy and political ideology. With Taurus Jupiter in your 9th house of faith, you're currently in the process of discovering what it is you believe, and more than that, you are developing a more consistent and disciplined belief system overall. Since Jupiter is about good luck and the 9th house also rules over areas of education and travel, it is possible you may also go on a journey of sorts, perhaps to a foreign countr,y and learning from these opportunities. You could also get an opportunity to take a new course and if so, you will likely succeed and it should be beneficial to you overall. In any case, you are learning a lot and gaining more confidence and passion when it comes to what you know and believe.

Libra

The root cause of your "indecision" is usually anxiousness, dear Libra, and with Taurus Jupiter in your 8th house, it is time to face your fears. This transit could even offer you some protection; whether that be in the form of loved ones passed on acting as guardian angels or in the form of financial gains, Jupiter is a benefic and in Taurus, serves to bring security. More than that, you have a heightened urge to learn about whats hidden. This might be an investigation into the sources of your trauma, a deeper form of intimacy, an interest in mysticism or it could be about overcoming your very fear of death itself.

Scorpio

You're known to dive head first into the things you care about dear Scorpio and relationships are no exception. You're all about those intense connections, but you also seek stability, a stability which is only to be found when you meet someone who can handle your intensity. With Taurus Jupiter in your 7th house, it is likely that you have found (or will find) such a person! This is a time for strong stable partnerships and all-around happiness in your love life. You've found (or will find) someone who you feel at home with, a secure foundation with someone you trust that is at the same time just as sensuous and exciting. Enjoy it to the fullest!

Sagittarius

You're always focused on the bigger picture, Sagittarius, but sometimes, when your mind gets lost in the wild world of ideas, you can lose touch with what's right in front of you. Your ruling planet, Jupiter, is now in the sense-driven sign of Taurus, transiting through your 6th house of health, bringing you back down to earth. You're being asked to pay more attention to the physical realm, to your body and how it feels, and to the every day routines that you find yourself in. Don't worry though, as Jupiter is a planet of positively and good luck, most likely bringing blessings to your health and some fun to your every day life.

Capricorn

While your hard work is to be admired, Capricorn, it can also be exhausting! With Taurus Jupiter in your 5th house, you're being reminded that it is ok to rest or better yet play! This transit helps you to take a step back from all the stress and unleash your inner child. Sometimes, this can be done by getting involved in the arts or any creative activity that you no longer have time for. Sometimes, this can be done through interacting with the children in your life and learning from them! Taurus is a sign associated with pleasure, meaning that one thing's for sure, this is a year meant for doing what you enjoy!!!

Aquarius

As free-spirited as you are, Aquarius, you like having a steady rock to fall back on. Lucky for you, with Taurus Jupiter in your 4th house, it looks like you are going to have that stable home that you desire. For some of you, this could mean a move to a nice, new apartment, or a re-decoration of what you already have. For others, this security might be less materialistic in nature and more about the luxury of living with people you love! This transit can sometimes indicate a bigger family, whether by growth or by marriage. In any case, Jupiter in Taurus is likely to provide you with a comfortable environment to reside in.

Pisces

You're a dreamer, Pisces, but with Taurus Jupiter transiting your 3rd house of communication and short travels, you're being asked to enjoy the pleasures that surround you here on earth! In particular, it is time to socialize with friends and enjoy some beautiful sights! Basically, if you put yourself out there, you'll discover that "being out of your comfort zone" is more comfortable than you thought. It's time to speak up and reach out to trusted friends and even forge some long-lasting bonds with some new ones. Perhaps, you'll even go on a road trip!

Conclusion

Overall, Jupiter in Taurus is a symbol of comfort, luxury, pleasure and economic security. While Jupiter's conjunction to Uranus in Taurus could be interpreted as a negative omen due to previous transits, it is important to remember that those times also coincided with other significant transits, such as a Saturn-Pluto square. On it's own, Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Taurus is a positive transit, representative of economic freedom and a cultural revolution, perhaps similar to the roaring 20's.

On a personal level, those with luminaries, angles or personal planets in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) are the most likely to be affected by this transit, while those with luminaries, angles or personal planets in the other earth signs (Virgo and Capricorn) are also likely to benefit.
