Less Talk, More Action: How the North Node in Aries Will Affect Your Life

Originally posted on Vocal in July, 2023

What Exactly ARE the Nodes?

The nodes are mathematical points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects with the ecliptic. The North Node is where the Moon moves into the northern ecliptic hemisphere while the South Node is where the Moon moves into the southern ecliptic hemisphere. They are always in opposite signs of the zodiac and always conjunct the Sun and Moon during an eclipse.

In modern western astrology, these points are believed to represent our karma and destiny. Specifically, the South Node is said to represent one's "karma" or perhaps better put, the things one is familiar with, while the North Node is believed to represent your "destiny" or in other words, where you are going. The Nodes are believed to be very spiritual points and a lot can be gleaned about a person's life path just from looking at these two points alone.

In Vedic (or Hindu) astrology, the North Node is known as Rahu and the South Node is known as Ketu, and while some of the meanings may seem to overlap, they are viewed very differently. Rahu, in Vedic astrology, is a point of focus, obsession and insatiable desire (where you are going). It is believed to be more malefic, however, and more materialistic (i.e. our fate here on earth, the material world). Ketu is thought of as a more spiritual point than in modern western astrology (which views it as something holding us back), representing liberation from earthly affairs, although it still carries an association with our past lives.

This article is written primarily through a modern western lens, on the topic of the nodes, but I have come to see the nodes as neither "positive" nor "negative" necessarily. They just simply are.

North Node in Aries, South Node in Libra

Aries is the sign of the ram, a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, planet of war. As the sign coinciding with the Vernal Equinox, the metaphorical 'rebirth' of the Sun, Aries is all about new beginnings and fresh starts. Those born under this sign are said to be trailblazers, pioneers and self-starters. Although hot-headed, they have a remarkable ability to fight for what they want and/or believe in with a fiery passion that is to be admired, Aries is a sign associated with independence. Sometimes impulsive, yes. Sometimes selfish, yes. But there are times when we need to be selfish, times when impulsivity gets things done.

Libra, on the other hand, is the sign of the scales, an air sign ruled by Venus, planet of love. As the sign coinciding with the Autumnal Equinox, when the days and nights become equal in length, Libra is a symbol of balance. It is a symbol of justice, equality, fairness, harmony and grand ideals about our relationship to one another. But in the pursuit of executing these ideas at any cost, in the pursuit of trying to appease anyone, you wind up appeasing no one. Considering both the aesthetic implications and moral ramifications of every decision results only in inaction and it is this that Libra struggles with the most.

With the South Node in Scorpio and the North Node in Taurus, we experienced the need for extra self-sufficiency and forced to depend less on the aid of others. Collectively, we saw this happen internationally when countless countries cut trading ties with Russia, a key player in the oil industry, in response to the war. This forced many countries to depend on their own resources or the resources of allies. I originally predicted that the North Node in Taurus would be good for the economy, but unfortunately, with a decrease in energy supply, energy prices have risen along with products that rely on such energy (cars, planes etc.) and the cost of living has gotten more expensive, as a whole, leading to an "every human out for themselves" kind of mentality. The Russian economy is also very dependent on other countries throughout the globe, and with these countries cutting ties and multinational businesses shutting down their Russian branches, it has been difficult for them financially, as well. In any case, this transit has coincided with a collective questioning of globalization and the interdependence of each nation throughout the world.

Looking back on current North Node transits (the confinement to our homes during its transit through Cancer, the confinement to our local communities during its transit through Gemini, and what I said about the North Node in Taurus's influence on the international sphere) perhaps North Node transits aren't always so positive after all! And unfortunately, I do see two potential negative manifestations of the North Node in Aries on a collective level.

Let's start with the more obvious: the South Node in Libra could lead to a decrease in peace while the North Node in Aries leads to an increase in war. Interestingly, and perhaps ironically, World War 2 began when the North Node was in the early degrees of Scorpio, about to ingress into Libra, with the South Node in Aries. Rather than lead to a decrease in war, war went global but it did so in a very Libra-like fashion, as the countries became united in alliances, with more and more countries getting involved in the war to help the others out. After all, it was World War 2 that lead to the creation of the United Nations and NATO itself. Now that the North Node is in Aries and the South Node in Libra, we could potentially see the beginnings of another world war, but there is another possibility, that we might see war within nations, civil wars, instead, or we might perhaps instead see the dissolution of the United Nations and a break-up to NATO, as well. The collapse of NATO (which was actually founded when the North Node was in Aries!) could actually happen as a means to put an end to the war.

They say women are from Venus & men are from Mars, and as a sign ruled by Mars, the North Node in Aries could perhaps be seen as a symbol of masculinity & men's rights. On it's own, that might not be such a bad thing. After all, sexism hurts men too! However, we have already begun to see a major backlash against feminism, with Andrew Tate as perhaps one of the movement's more extreme figureheads. Then, there is the increasingly widespread practice of male abusers suing their female victims for defamation. There is an unfortunate possibility that this will only get worse during the course of this transit. But let's hope I am wrong!

Because the North Node in Aries has many positive attributes, as well! Perhaps, the positive aspects of nodal transits can be more closely seen in its effect on individuals. For example, as someone born with North Node in Scorpio and South Node in Taurus, the nodal reversal was a significant transit for me. During this transit, I was forced to come to grips with some major losses and heal from them (South Node in Scorpio). In a way, I was forced to stand on my own two feet (North Node in Taurus) rather than being so emotionally dependent on others. Living in the present (North Node in Taurus) and immersing myself in the now-ness of physical reality was one way of healing from my depression and grief (South Node in Scorpio) ( although it is worth noting that spirituality & religion were another major component). Through this practice, I have outgrown some outdated emotional patterns (South Node in Taurus conjunct the Moon) and learned to develop a much healthier approach to intimacy (North Node in Scorpio conjunct Venus and Jupiter, my 7th house ruler). Other people may have experienced this transit a bit differently and that is dependent on their own unique natal charts (which, if you want to learn more about, you can schedule a reading with me right here on my website).

Now, with the South Node in Libra and the North Node in Aries, we might see a major decrease in co-dependency (South Node in Libra) and an increase in self-confidence (North Node in Aries). We might see a decrease in indecision and talk, and an increase in action. We are letting go of the compulsive need to walk on eggshells for fear of offending people (South Node in Libra) in favor of a more child-like honesty (North Node in Aries), even if it is brutal. Toxic and unhealthy partnerships and even friendships might come to a halt during this time, as we collectively realize the importance of looking out for number one. We tend to place more value on consideration of others than we do on selfishness, and for good reason. However, sometimes, we can care so much about other people to the point that we neglect ourselves, and this transit is about realizing our self-worth. If people are mean to us, it is time to fight back! It is time to stand up for ourselves and to stand up for what we believe, even if it is unpopular or other people don't like it. We might also be walking away from intellectualism in favor of unrestrained passion! While this may seem scary to some, isn't it passion, excitement and feeling that make life worth living?

Horoscopes

Now it's time to see how it will affect your sign. I suggest reading the horoscope for your ascendant or rising sign, first, instead of the sun. I find the rising sign horoscope to be more accurate than the sun, as these horoscopes are based on the houses. If you don't know your rising sign, click here to generate a birth chart. Yes, you will need your birth time for this. If you don't have your birth time, Sun sign horoscopes are the next best thing. However, these are general readings. If you want to know more about how this transit will affect your chart personally, please book an appointment with me here.

Those of you with angles, planets or the North and South Node in the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) will be most especially affected by this transit.

Aries

They may say you're independent, Aries, but in reality, many of you put your all into relationships. As much as you act tough, deep down, you crave a passionate romance, a partner in crime, and may depend on such a person more than you like to admit! Such dependency can sometimes come off as demanding, and for some of you, a relationship could be coming to an end, or else your partner may be finding your passion to be a little bit "too much." The Libra South Node in your 7th house could also indicate a karmic relationship, a past life partner whose come to shake you out of your unhealthy habits. Such a relationship could help you gain confidence or inspire you to work on your self; through interactions with others, you could learn to love yourself all the more. Others of you may instead be learning to find comfort in singledom. In any case, the Aries North Node in your 1st house is all about striking it out at your own, being independent and confident in yourself!

Taurus

As hard-working as you are, Taurus, your love of pleasure is far greater. With a Libra South Node in your 6th house of work and health, it's possible you've been lazily relying on others to do the work for you. Too much Venusian enjoyment is not always the best for your body! Alternatively, it's possible indecision or just plain people pleasing at work has been draining you, affecting your health in negative ways. With the Aries North Node in your 12th house, it's a good time to re-charge and do the work alone, even when its difficult. It's time to listen to your body, doing what's best for your health rather than what co-workers/supervisors/others in general want from you. Most importantly, you have good intuition and it is time to use it to make your own decisions rather than letting the many noisy voices of other people get to you! In other words, it's a good time to practice self-care.

Gemini

Kids are adorable but they can be demanding, and if you have them, it's possible that they've been taking up too much of your time! If not, the Libra South Node in your 5th house could be referring to a project or piece of art you're working on or perhaps one of your favorite hobbies that is somehow placing limits on your social life. In any case, the Aries North Node in your 11th house of friendship is urging you to set some boundaries with your children - or put a pause on your creative work - and allow yourself some time to enjoy your social life. You're a multitasker , Gemini, and you know how to balance different relationships and demands. It's important you make some time to put yourself out there and meet some like-minded people who value your authentic self!

Cancer

You're all about family, Cancer, and that is admirable, but is it possible that you are sacrificing your own needs and desires to make your family happy? With the North & South Node in the 10th and 4th house, respectively, you may be faced with a tough choice between family and career. The Aries North Node in your 10th house is urging you to take risks and go after the job you want, but the Libra South Node in your 4th house suggests that doing so may come at the cost of upsetting someone in your home. However, as important as family is, there are times where you need to put yourself first. Is it worth it to lose an amazing opportunity just to avoid upsetting someone? If this opportunity is as amazing as you feel it to be, it is likely that those who love you will come around.

Leo

Has people-pleasing got in the way of speaking your truth, dear Leo? Sometimes, you may appear more confident than you really are, even coming off as full of yourself when really, you just love to be loved! at times, even at the expense of your own truth. With the Aries North Node in your 9th house of philosophy and travel, you're learning to stand up for what you believe. With the Libra South Node in your 3rd house of communication and short journeys, you may be playing it safe, sticking to what you know, and watching what you say to avoid burning bridges. But when you have faith in yourself, it can lead you on the most amazing adventures!

Virgo

It's no secret that you worry a lot, Virgo, and with the Libra South Node in your 2nd house of finance, it looks like lately you may have been worrying a little too much about money. Perhaps, you've been so stressed about material things that you've been neglecting the spiritual side of life. The Aries North Node in your 8th house of transformation urges you to get over your fear of death, your fear of intimacy, your fear of looking within. While yes, money is important to our survival, at the end of the day, there are more important things.

Libra

You love relationships, Libra, but sometimes, your own insecurities can get in the way. With the Libra South Node in your 1st house of identity, it is possible that you've been self-absorbed lately, perhaps too deep in your head. If you're in a relationship, perhaps you've been so busy and stressed in life that your partner feels neglected. The Aries North Node in your 7th house of partnership advices you to get out of your head and go after what/who you want, even if it means you have to fight for it. Some of you could be dealing with a karmic relationship, a past life connection with the purpose of changing your life. In any case, this transit will help you to heal from your insecurities and grow into being the best partner that you can be!

Scorpio

You're a deep thinker, Scorpio, but sometimes, thinking too much can make one go crazy. The Libra South Node in your 12th house of seclusion suggests that you may be spending a little too much time alone. What is the point of thinking deeply if we don't share those thoughts with others - or incorporate them into our daily routine? The Aries North Node in your 6th house of health and work advises you to return to the world, to spend less time meditating and ruminating in the privacy of your own home and to spend more time doing. It's time to take action, to move, to exercise! It's time to incorporate your thoughts and ideas into your work, into an every day routine that works well for you. You may be inclined to isolate yourself from the world but doing so will only be a detriment to your health.

Sagittarius

You're known to be quite outgoing, Sagittarius, but sometimes, it's good to take some time for yourself, to be expressive and to create. With the Libra South Node in your 11th house of friendships, it's possible that your friends are messing with your head. You may not be prone to group think but when countless voices are telling you what they think you should do, it can be easy to get confused. The Aries North Node in your 5th house of creativity is asking you to set some boundaries with your friends, to follow your heart and immerse yourself in your own hobbies, to express yourself how you want and to make your own decisions about the things you create, even if it may be a bit risky. The 5th house also rules children so for those of you with kids (or in any case, for those who take care of them) this may be about setting boundaries with your friends so you can spend more time with them. If your friends "don't like kids", perhaps they are not the right friends for you, because at the end of the day, it's your children who are most important.

Capricorn

Let's face it, Capricorn, you're a little bit of a workaholic. The thing is, when you devote so much time to work, you lose the energy for spending time with your family and the things that are more important. The Libra South Node in your 10th house of career suggests that you've been spending too much energy on your ambitions. Perhaps, you've been worried about your image or what other people may think. The Aries North Node in your 4th house of home suggests that it's time to take a break from all that and focus on yourself, even if it means setting boundaries with the people you work for/with. As ambitious as you are, there are some things that are more important to you than work and family is at the top of the list. Now is the time to go out, take action and do things with the people you care about.

Aquarius

You're a freethinker, Aquarius, and yet, just as concerned with the greater good as you are your personal liberties. The Libra South Node in your 9th house of religion, higher education and foreign travel suggests a focus on big ideas, but is it possible that your love of philosophy is pushing people away? While your intellectualism is certainly to be admired, sometimes people just want to make chit chat about their day (without it somehow turning into a debate about alien conspiracies). The Aries North Node in your 3rd house of communication, local travel and basic knowledge advises you to be blunt, but perhaps, that also involves a back-to-basics approach that people can understand, like talking about what's real to you in your personal life. Often, you feel like you have the weight of the entire world on your shoulders but does dwelling on all the world's problems actually help people? If you want to change the world, its best to take action by starting small and focusing on the things that you can.

Pisces

You're a sweetheart, Pisces. Those who know you love you for your giving and generous nature. But with Libra South Node in your 8th house of "other people's resources" (or shared finances) it's possible that you've been sharing too much. Being kind to others without expecting anything in return is an admirable trait, but unfortunately, it's something that some people like to take advantage of. The Aries North Node in your 1st house of finances is suggesting the importance of looking out for your self, your own safety and security and sometimes, that involves the cultivation of boundaries. Keeping a few things for yourself does not make you unkind.

Conclusion

In short, the North Node's transit through the sign of Aries will help to steer you away from indecision and meaningless talk in favor of a more active approach to life. On a personal level, we may be inspired to break bonds that don't serve us, to be less codependent and more independent, to stand up for ourselves, to set better boundaries and to fight for what we feel is right. Since Aries is a fire sign, we might feel more energetic and enthusiastic about life. To learn more about how this transit might affect you personally, click here to schedule a reading with me.
