Jupiter Retrograde: General Meaning
A retrograde planet is one that appears to be moving backwards. All planets go retrograde at some point (save for the luminaries, which are technically not planets anyway, but in astrology, we usually label them as such). From an astrological perspective, this causes (or indicates that) the energies represented by the planet are turned backward or inward. Often, this means reflecting on the past. People, places & things, lessons, messages, situations & themes, will often return to us during these periods. If not literally speaking, they will still make their way back into our memory. Mercury Retrograde (when communication goes haywire) and even Venus in Retrograde (when our relationships are put to the test) are discussed more often, but what does it mean for Jupiter to go Retrograde?
Well, for starters, Jupiter goes Retrograde once a year, lasting for a period of about four months. Known as "the great benefic" some astrologers consider Jupiter's retrograde period to be "less negative" but this does not mean that its without its challenges.
Generally, Jupiter is believed to bring blessings to whatever part of the chart it is located in, but when Jupiter goes Retrograde, you may find out that the blessing isn't what you thought it was or perhaps, it was never really yours at all. It may feel as if God had gifted you with the most magical thing possible, only to snatch it away just like that. "Why?" you may wonder. I wonder so, myself, but perhaps, we can think of it as a test, a test to see whether we are really prepared for the gifts we are about to receive, or a test to see whether we really want it before being blessed with something better. Such an interpretation is mostly built upon my own personal experience of previous Jupiter Retrograde transits (particularly Jupiter's Retrograde through Scorpio & through Taurus, in conjunction and/or opposition to my natal Jupiter).
On a slightly simpler note, Jupiter Retrograde periods are about spiritual reflection and philosophical introspection. It's a good time for questioning (which is not necessarily the same as rejecting) your faith and figuring out what it is that you really believe, whether religiously, ideologically, intellectually, or just in terms of your most deeply-held personal values. It's also a good time to become aware of whatever is hindering your development so that you can move forward and grow.

Jupiter Retrograde in Cancer: Meaning, Symbolism & Predictions
Jupiter stationed Retrograde on November 11th (11:11, for those into angel numbers haha) at 25'09° Cancer. It will continue its journey backwards until March 10th, 2026, when it will finally station forward again at 15'05°. So what can we expect from this four month period that Jupiter will be Retrograde in the sign of Cancer?
Jupiter is exalted in the sign of Cancer, meaning that the planet of luck, abundance, meaning and growth generally performs very well here. This cardinal water sign ruled by the Moon is known for its nurturing and mothering qualities. The crab itself is a creature that can remind us of the early stages of life's origins, coming out of the waters that humanity would eventually evolve & grow from. If it wasn't for its protective shell and its determination to survive, where would all be today? Both sensitive and strong, Cancer is a sign associated with emotion, feeling, memory, home, family and the past. There's a good reason for Jupiter being exalted here and a good reason for why I titled my articles about this transit, "Awakening Our Angelic Ancestry." However, while that article (separated into parts 1 and 2) goes more in depth about the meaning of Jupiter in Cancer, this one is concerned with the influence of its retrograde period more specifically.

So, with Jupiter Retrograde in Cancer, it's themes are essentially turned inward. This includes positivity, luck, growth and/or expansion around themes of the home, family, ancestry, memory and/or our personal & emotional wellbeing. This is a great time for activities such as, looking back on our personal or family histories and learning about them, journaling or writing memoirs, and basically anything that involves learning about who we are and where we come from. This period may bring out very emotional & nostalgic feelings in some of us, but it's not about living in the past, so much as it is about figuring out what it means to us, now, as we move forward with our lives in the present.
Given that Cancer is itself a very subjective sign, this transit is very much about becoming more in touch with our inner worlds, which of course makes it a bit more difficult to make any definite predictions about what it means on the collective level. More than anything else, this transit is one about remembering, and reflecting on our beliefs about who we are, where we belong and who we want to become. For some people, this can be about awakening to something long forgotten within or returning to something you had left or lost, whether that be a relationship, a job or some sort of abandoned project, but whatever it is, this will be something positive and meaningful for you. In any case, reflection on the past is necessary for learning how to move forward.

Jupiter in Cancer Retrograde 2025-2026: Aspects & Other Transits
The aspects Jupiter in Cancer makes when retrograde include a grand water trine between Saturn (also retrograde) at 25'23° Pisces, Neptune at 29'36° of the fish and the Sun at 18'32° Scorpio (with Venus, planet of love, also in the sign of the scorpion at 5'57°). In theory, this should make this retrograde period easier, still lucky but more a period of reflection or an encounter with our past that gives us clarity about our feelings, where we find meaning and how we want to move forward with that newfound understanding. There seems to be a good balance of optimism and realism present in this transit, high hopes and big dreams, with the discipline and practicality to actually make them happen. There may be an expansion of willpower here, confidence, and vitality, as well as self-awareness, a good balance between asserting our will while considerate of the needs of others.
However, it is worth noting that Mercury also went Retrograde, two days before, in the sign of Sagittarius, a sign that Jupiter rules. This could indicate, like, a double-whammy of the same sort of energy i.e. reflection on our beliefs, serendipitous opportunities, healing from our past, learning from our pasts, and working things out with exes or others who we have fallen out with. Of course, when Jupiter stations Retrograde, Mercury will be Retrograde at 6'35° Sagittarius and conjunct Mars at 5'08° degrees, which could indicate some conflict or blunt truths coming out. However, the day of Jupiter's station Retrograde, these planets also happened to be trine the Moon, the ruler of the sign of Cancer, at 13'02° Leo. So, what happens during this period is most likely for the highest good of our emotional wellbeing and inner sense of security rather than anything negative or too challenging.

Conclusion
As some of you may know, in the past, I used to write horoscopes with these things. However, I have been very busy and honestly, if you would like to know more about how this retrograde will affect you personally, you are better off scheduling a reading with me, by clicking here: but please remember to book at least three days in advance.
Apart from that, this Jupiter in Retrograde period will most significantly affect those with angles or planets (particularly luminaries) between 13 and 27 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn). If you know your rising sign, you can also look to what house Cancer is placed in your birth chart (as well as Sagittarius & Pisces, as the houses Jupiter rules in your personal natal chart) for further information on what areas of life are affected by this transit. Once again, I am available for readings if you would like to learn more!
