Stubborn Hearts: Aries & Taurus Synastry Compatibility

Article originally published on Vocal.

Introduction

I am starting this series about relationship compatibility between the signs because I know it's a topic that a lot of people are interested in, nd I admit that as a Libra, relationships are one of my favorite topics as well! I'm not only interested in romantic relationships but why is it that we gravitate towards certain personalities and clash so hard with others? Astrological compatibility is a tricky subject, however, and because of that, I'd like you to keep a few things in mind as you read this article:

1. Any two signs can get along with the right amount of patience and understanding. This article is not about "whether or not," Aries & Taurus are compatible but about how the two signs will interact; the good, the bad, and everything in between.

2. When I talk about "signs," I am speaking about the archetype as a whole; not just Sun Signs. The Sun is a very important placement in the birth chart, don't get me wrong, but this article can also be applied to Aries & Taurus Ascendants, Moons, Venuses, etc. It could even be applied to an Aries Sun in a relationship with a Taurus Moon, although with that, you also have to keep in mind that the Sun and Moon represent two different things.

3. Everyone has a full natal chart, comprised of more than one sign. So, how "two signs," interact may not necessarily reflect the whole picture. If you're interested in a more extensive compatibility report, you can get synastry a reading here.

4. This article is not just about romantic compatibility (although that may seem to be the focus since it's what people are usually most interested in) but friendship, family, business and all other sorts of relationships as well.

Compatibility Between Aries & Taurus Placements

Traditionally, these signs are considered to be very different as they share neither element, modality or polarity. While Aries is a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, Taurus is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus, leading to very different sort of temperaments. As far as Sun Signs go, however, I notice that adjacent signs are together much more often that the traditional rules of compatibility would have you think and I believe this is because those with Sun in Aries, for instance, often have other planets (such as Mercury and Venus) in Taurus, and vice versa, leading to greater connection and understanding. Furthermore, I think side-by-side signs themselves often have similar traits, as well as contrasting ones, almost as if the sign of Taurus represents a continuation of the themes initiated by Aries, on some level.

Essentially, Aries is a go-getter, fast-paced, adventurous and always on the move. Taurus, on the other hand, prefers to be more relaxed and comfortable, sticking to what they already know. Aries is a very passionate sign and this can lead them to rushing into a relationship too soon. Taurus is a practical sign that prefers to take things slow. Aries can get impatient with this, but as committed as they are, Taurus placements simply need time to make sure it's something they really want before making any final decisions. While Aries is impulsive and concerned with the feelings of the moment, Taurus is much more cautious and concerned with their long-term safety. While it's possible that they can help balance each other out, these differences could also trigger personality conflicts. Of course, Aries likes a challenge and differences excite them, but this is exactly the kind of argumentative & aggressive nature that throws the peace-loving Taurus off-kilter. It's possible that arguments between these two signs may be never-ending, as Aries will fight for what they want until they get it, and as peace-loving as they may be, Taurus is stubborn and doesn't back down from such conflict. In fact, this can be to their own detriment at times. Once they have made their mind up about a relationship, they will be loyal to the point of staying in it even if it's uncomfortable or even painful, which could be an issue if the Aries gets more aggressive than the Taurus can handle.

On a more positive note, Aries and Taurus are both represented by horned animals, the ram and the bull respectively, which speaks to their many similarities. Both signs are primarily concerned with their own self-interest and preservation. Furthermore, they both like to keep things simple in a way, with very little tolerance for senseless drama or unnecessary embellishment. Aries is blunt and straight to the point, which the trustworthy Taurus appreciates and finds refreshing. They're also both very sense-driven, with Taurus being the more stereotypically "sensual," of the two. As "bestial," or "animalistic," signs (as opposed to the more "humane," signs like Virgo and Aquarius) they are guided by their instincts, preferring to live in the moment rather than overthink. Both signs have an appreciation for the "pleasures of the flesh," such as good food, wine, music and of course, sex. Essentially, they have enough similarities to make things work, so as long as Aries is willing to be patient and Taurus is willing to step out of their comfort zone, they may even learn things from one another.
