Reclaiming Our Humanity: How The North Node's Shift Into Aquarius Will Affect Your Life

On Monday, July 27th, 2026, the North Node will leave the deep waters of Pisces for the cool winds of the air sign, Aquarius, where it will stay until March 26th, 2028. Meanwhile the South Node will exit Virgo for the sign of Leo. Here's a bit more information about what we might expect.

What Exactly ARE the Nodes?

The nodes are mathematical points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects with the ecliptic. The North Node is where the Moon moves into the northern ecliptic hemisphere while the South Node is where the Moon moves into the southern ecliptic hemisphere. They are always in opposite signs of the zodiac and always conjunct the Sun and Moon during an eclipse.

In modern western astrology, these points are believed to represent our karma and destiny. Specifically, the South Node is said to represent one's "karma" or perhaps better put, the things one is familiar with, while the North Node is believed to represent your "destiny" or in other words, where you are going. The Nodes are believed to be very spiritual points and a lot can be gleaned about a person's life path just from looking at these two points alone.

In Vedic (or Hindu) astrology, the North Node is known as Rahu and the South Node is known as Ketu, and while some of the meanings may seem to overlap, they are viewed very differently. Rahu, in Vedic astrology, is a point of focus, obsession and insatiable desire (where you are going). It is believed to be more malefic, however, and more materialistic (i.e. our fate here on earth, the material world). Ketu is thought of as a more spiritual point than in modern western astrology (which views it as something holding us back), representing liberation from earthly affairs, although it still carries an association with our past lives.

This article is written primarily through a modern western lens, on the topic of the nodes, since that's the interpretation I'm more familiar with, but I have personally come to see the nodes as neither "positive" nor "negative" necessarily. They just simply are.

North Node in Aquarius, South Node in Leo, 2026

Aquarius is a fixed air sign, ruled by Saturn (but also, co-ruled by Uranus in modern astrology) while its opposite, Leo is a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun. Aquarius, the sign of the water-bearer, is essentially a human being, carrying / pouring the waters of life, kind of like a gardener watering their plants. Leo is, of course, the sign of the lion, the giant cat with the long mane that makes them stand out as the kings of the jungle. So, there, we have some basic idea of what these signs are, but how might this nodal shift from Pisces & Virgo to Aquarius & Leo actually affect us? There are a few different ideas that come to mind.

Generally speaking, Aquarius can be sign as a symbol for humanity, or "the people" as a whole while Leo represents the leader(s). As far as mundane astrology is concerned (although perhaps, I'm being overly optimistic) this can represent the downfall of a king or dictatorial politician. Those who gained their power & status through narcissistic or exploitative means may face repercussions during this transit. On a more personal level, with the North Node in Aquarius, we may be more idealistic, or social in our motivations, and with the South Node in Leo, less ego-driven or self-centered. We can benefit from this transit by involving ourselves with the community and/or stepping outside of ourselves to consider the bigger picture.

The lion is a fierce creature, but it is a playful one too, and these fun-loving traits of the Leo zodiac sign may still shine brightly with the South Node transiting here, as well. Aquarius may be a free-spirited air sign but remember, it's ruled by Saturn, a planet known for its seriousness & austerity while the air element itself has a reputation for coolness & detachment. With the North Node in this sign, there is, perhaps, a danger of becoming so obsessed with our quest for the "greater good" that we forget that we're here to have fun! The South Node in Leo is best used for creativity & self-expression aimed in the direction of the necessary innovation & reform associated with the North Node in Aquarius. This is a time for unity, but individuality, too: unity in diversity is the key!

How will this be different from the North Node in Pisces or South Node in Virgo? While my article on this transit predicted more of a focus on the unification between science & spirituality (which perhaps, was seen in certain circles or areas of life) in retrospect, and I'm sure other transits played a part in this too (like the Neptune-Saturn conjunction, which was conjunct the North Node in Pisces at some points before moving into Aries marking a new era, while Mercury & Venus were retrograde together with the North Node in the sign of the fish during this 18-month period, and of course, it's worth mentioning the square to Uranus after having just moved into Gemini) this transit's main influence could perhaps be seen in the increasingly blurry distinction between fantasy & reality. The distinction between our real lives and digital lives have grown increasingly hazy, and with AI being pushed on us in the name of data & efficiency, so much of what we see & read online is fake news. Some people say AI has created its own digital religion so perhaps my prediction did come true, after all! In any case, such themes will likely continue with the North Node in Aquarius & the South Node in Leo but with a greater focus on what it means to be human, in a world where the-powers-that-be are currently trying to render us all extinct.

Aspects to Jupiter & Pluto

It's important to note that the shift of the North Node into Aquarius & the South Node in Leo corresponds with some other major transits taking place that will have an influence on what the nodes will be like in these signs, this time around. Jupiter entered Leo, only shortly beforehand, on June 30th, making an opposition to Pluto, which has been in Aquarius (on & off, if we consider its retrogrades back into Capricorn) since March 2023. That means that while North Node will conjunct Jupiter, in Leo, the South Node will conjunct Pluto, in Aquarius. While the exact dates for all of these aspects will differ, the Jupiter-Pluto opposition is definitely important to take into account when we consider the astrological influence of the nodal shift. Because they involve slower-moving planets, these aspects arguably have longer-term, larger-scale effects that make them important to mention.

The opposition of Jupiter in Leo to Pluto in Aquarius, which went exact on the 20th of July 2026 at 4'26°, is an indicator of intensified ideological divisions. Differences in belief systems amongst populations may be taken to the furthest extreme during the course of this transit. The North Node's conjunction to Pluto will be exact on the 30th of November 2027 at 5'11° emphasizing power to the people. What was hidden or kept in the dark will likely come to light during this transit. The South Node's conjunction to Jupiter in Leo will go exact multiple times:  first on 11th November 2026 at 25'29° & again, with Jupiter Retrograde, on 1st March 2027 at 19'41°  and finally at 17'04° on April 20th 2027. While it's possible for narcissism, pride & the selfish desire for power to be exaggerated during the course of the transit, this will likely cause a backlash, suggesting a liberation from such tyranny.

Conclusion

To sum it up, the North Node in Aquarius has a lot to do with letting go of our egos, letting go of our narcissistic tendencies & embracing our place in the community. With the South Node in Leo, we're learning that, while individuality & creativity is important, these qualities should be used to create a sense of unity rather than division.

I would have loved to have written horoscopes for this article, as I have done for similar articles in the past, but I've been too busy and they feel too general anyway, like a newspaper horoscope. You're better off scheduling a reading with me directly and seeing how it affects your natal chart as an individual.'
