Introduction:
On Thursday, February 26th, 2026 at 6:48 A.M. GMT, Mercury will station retrograde at 22'33° in Pisces, sign of its detriment (along with Sagittarius). The planet of communication & logic will continue its backwards journey until 7:33 P.M GMT on March 20th, the same day as the Spring Equinox, when it will move direct at 8'29° of the fishy sign. This article discusses a little bit about what you might expect from this.
It's worth noting Mercury entered the retrograde zone (i.e. passing over the degree of 8'29° Pisces) on February 11th. So, it's possible that you may have already begun to feel little hints about what to expect during this period (also known as it's pre-shadow phase).

Mercury Retrograde: What Does It Mean?
A retrograde planet is one that appears to be moving backwards from the vantage point of the earth. From an astrologer's perspective, this means that the energies symbolized by the planet are also directed "backwards" or "inward" instead of functioning in its usual way.
In Roman mythology, Mercury is considered to be the "messenger of the gods," ruling over letters, divination and pretty much all forms of communication, as well as commerce and travel. Due to "his" ability to travel between two worlds, he is the god of translators and interpreters, but look out: he is also the god of tricksters, pranksters, and thieves. In astrology, Mercury represents the logical mind, intelligence and the way we think. Ruled by the mutable signs, Virgo (the virgin) and Gemini (the twins) (the signs opposite Pisces & Sagittarius, respectively) there is a dualistic nature to the planet that gave birth to the word "mercurial," (meaning unpredictable or changeable).
So, when Mercury goes Retrograde, you can expect delays and disruption around areas such as travel, technology, communication and thought. Misunderstandings may occur and/or you may gloss over important details. It is best to double-check your work and try your best to be as clear as you can when you communicate to avoid these mishaps. That said, while these periods can definitely be unpredictable and maybe even a little bit chaotic, this doesn't necessarily make them negative, especially if you use this as a time for reflection rather than action. In fact, sometimes the unexpected can instead feel wonderfully fated. It's a good time for re-thinking, re-doing, and returning to the past, finishing up former projects and having clarifying conversations that you should have had long ago. Its a period often loaded with a feeling of magic & synchronicity, and a favored time for contemplation & meditation. Things from the past might come back to us during this time, as well, whether this be people (including but not limited to exes), situations, memories or a second chance at things we failed to achieve and/or learn the first time around.

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces: 2026
So, Mercury is already considered to be detriment when in Pisces a mutable water sign ruled by Jupiter, (and sometimes considered to be co-ruled by Neptune in modern astrology) which in contrast to the detail-orientated, analytical nature of the planet Mercury, is more concerned with faith, meaning and the bigger picture. The fish is a sensitive sign concerned more with feelings & impressions, which is not quite Mercury's comfort zone, as Mercury would rather focus on the facts. Essentially, those born with Mercury in Pisces are inclined to think in a more intuitive, less linear way, which of course, can often be a strength. However, sometimes feelings can be misleading and distort the reality of the situation. Being a psychic sponge can sometimes lead people with this placement in their chart to becoming easily manipulated, or sometimes, they can be the manipulators, often the type who are able to convince themselves of their own lies. The fish is a soft and vulnerable creatures who often prefers to escape into the fantasy realm of their own imagination. Even when the water is clear, thus the truth undistorted, another challenge lies in the fact that Mercury in Pisces, the sign of the fish, can swim to such great depths, that it has difficult being able to translate what they experience to those back out on the surface. Basically, Mercury in Pisces can struggle with communication due to having a challenging time putting their thoughts into words.
Essentially when Retrograde, some of the already challenging qualities of Mercury in Pisces may be taken to an extreme, and I am talking about on the collective level. Our judgement of reality may be clouded by our own inner fantasies, leading to errors or delays with travel, technology, administrative documents of all sorts, the media and/or communication (and since in Pisces, I wouldn't be surprised if many phones/computers/etc. break due to water damage, so you might want to be extra careful of that). Wishful thinking may be part of it, as we may be extra prone to viewing things through rose colored glasses at the moment. Conversely, we are also vulnerable to letting our imaginations run wild to the point of believing our most irrational fears. It may be easy for people to fall into a sort of collective delusion at this time, or they may fall prey to cult-like behaviors. On another note, and this may be an even more ubiquitous problem over the next few weeks (and now, I realize how grateful I am that I gave up drinking for Lent) it is possible that the influence of drugs, alcohol and/or other substances may lead people to do or say things that they later regret, and conversations had while under the influence could possibly lead to massive misunderstandings later on.

That said, Mercury Retrograde is a time for reflection, and as a sign immersed in the inner worlds, this is something that Mercury in Pisces can be very good at. This is a good time, for example, re-writing our understanding of the past, or what it means to us, so we can live a better future. It's a good time for engaging the imagination through any sort of creative or artistic project, and we may even find ourselves more inspired. It's also good for healing, therapy, exploring past lives, or ancestry. Certain spiritual practices may be easier to tap into for some during this time. We may, for example, connect with people from our past, whether dead or alive, through dreams or other mysterious means. This is a very good time for dream divination and in general, we should be in a more receptive state of mind for understanding telepathic, intuitive or spiritual messages (or at least, long as we don't get too carried away by projecting our own idea of its meaning - i.e. what we wish for or fear - too soon).
For further insight into how Mercury Retrograde in Pisces will affect the collective in 2026, let's take a look at the chart attached below. There are a number of interesting aspects that will shape its influence.

In the chart above, you can see that Mercury's stationed Retrograde at 22'33° Pisces. It's closest and arguably most significant aspect might be the conjunction to Venus at 19'49° of the mutable water sign. This places a huge emphasis on matters of love, beauty, and relationships. It's possible, then, that misunderstandings may be effecting our romantic lives, most of all, or we may be reflecting or re-thinking our relationships at this time. It's possible that wishful thinking may cloud our judgement where romance is concerned or we may be more willing to overlook the red flags in a potential match. It's possible for us to fall in love with the idea of a person, only to realize, once Mercury goes Direct, why the relationship won't work in reality. Since this is Mercury Retrograde, after all, it's possible we may be more vulnerable to letting back in someone who hurt us in the past, or we could be idealizing our ex, but on the other hand, this is also a good time for breaking the pattern of idealizing exes.
On the other hand, might this Mercury-Venus conjunction in Pisces actually be a good thing? Unlike Mercury, however, Venus is actually exalted in Pisces, which means it is very comfortable here. It depends on the details of your situation, of course, and on that note, perhaps this Mercury Retrograde might be a good opportunity for all of us to reflect deeply on why we love who we love or like what we like. However, for many of us, it might actually wind up being beneficial for us to listen to our hearts rather than our heads. For those of us whose overthinking causes us to remain stuck in limbo, or worse, even sabotage our relationships, this transit can help us to stay present and learn to love in a healthy way. It's possible we may receive important communication, whether direct or not, from someone we've loved but lost. It's possible, too, that we could reunite with a real soulmate during this period. This could be an ex, for some, but not necessarily; it could be, for example, that signs & synchronicities lead us to reconnect with someone that our soul knew in a past life or some other higher realm. On that note, speaking of exes, this is a very good time for forgiveness & closure regardless, as we may, for example, be learning the lesson that it's very possible to love someone unconditionally without necessarily wanting them in our lives or at least not in the capacity that they used to be in. Ultimately, it is important to be discerning here, which isn't the same as overthinking. It's better to love with your heart, not your mind, but it helps to get to the root of why your heart is drawn to this person, in particular. Is it really your heart that's calling you to them or has your mind only convinced you it has?

Meanwhile, the Sun is also in Pisces at 7'40° conjunct the North Node at 9'11° (and therefore opposite the South Node in Virgo at the same degree) arguably making it a stellium. Speaking of soulmates, and all that, this is a good time for learning soul lessons that help us to grow. So the things that happen, the people we meet, and the conversations may carry an extra fated feeling during this period that could hold weight over the rest of our lives. This may come after a lot of difficult, or even painful, reflecting, or it may even be learned from the mistakes & misunderstandings that happen as a result of the retrograde, but it's possible that we learn how to truly trust ourselves during this period. We may be developing confidence in our intuitions and getting better at truly listening to what our heart has to say.
The water energy is strong with Mercury Retrograde & Venus making (an albeit wide) trine to Pisces' ruling planet, Jupiter, also Retrograde but soon to go Direct, at 15'21 Cancer, with the Moon at home at the first degree of Cancer as well. It's arguable that as Pisces ruling planet, Jupiter's trine to Mercury Retrograde is the most significant aspect. Like Venus in Pisces, Jupiter is exalted when in the sign of Cancer, meaning that it is very comfortable here and performs very well. Having both benefics in such strong positions, and positively influencing Mercury helps a lot to mitigate the more challenging effects normally associated with this transit.

I mean, Jupiter is the planet of abundance & faith, right? So, this is one of those Mercury Retrograde periods that are actually bring blessings & good luck. It may feel as if something magic is in the air, perhaps, and maybe it's just a matter of using your discernment to figure out whether it's real or not. It may be that serendipity helps you to get a second chance at something, or come to terms with the past in some way. This could be an opportunity to re-write your past in a way that you had never thought possible before. The challenge may stem from feeling like it's too good to be true, but I'm feeling like the truth is that a portal is opening up, giving us the chance to make some of our "craziest" (in a positive way!) fantasies a reality!
On another note, Mercury Retrograde's trine to Jupiter makes this a good time for looking within, learning from the past and realizing what you should have done differently, taking accountability and coming to terms with what you should do going forward. In a way, it honestly makes sense to me that this transit just so happens to line up with the Catholic season of Lent and the Muslim season of Ramadan, as I get the sense of having an opportunity for atonement or a rebirth of sorts. This is a good opportunity for focusing heavily on your own spiritual growth. I feel like, with Jupiter in the sign of Cancer, connecting with your ancestral roots or perhaps getting in touch with your past lives are particularly helpful spiritual practices at this time.

The other aspect Mercury Retrograde in Pisces makes is a sextile to Uranus at 27'40 Taurus, sign of the bull. This is another positive aspect, one suggestive of something liberating. This could be about freeing yourself from the past, unbinding yourself to a history or identity that you no longer resonate with. Of course, with with Mars at 26'36 Aquarius squaring it, Uranus (which is often considered to be the Saturn-ruled air sign's modern co-ruler, just like with Neptune & Pisces), this process might be challenging, but ultimately, worth it. There is also something almost... whimsical, I feel, about this aspect . It's basically advising you to be open-minded because the synchronicities you experience may be very unexpected but in a positive way. It's a good time for making changes in your life, re-writing the past, and it helps to be open to change too.
Additionally, it is important to consider the timing of Mercury's Retrograde in Pisces in regard to some of the other significant transits that are affecting us. After all, it occurs less than a week after the historic Neptune-Saturn conjunction at the first degree of Aries went exact (and the fact that many consider Neptune to be Pisces modern planetary ruler might increase the relevance of these two transits in regards to each other) on February 20th. This followed an intense Solar Eclipse in Aquarius, just two days before, on February 18th, with both the Sun and Moon entering Pisces just later that same days. While on an individual level its influence depends on how it affects your natal chart (& for that you can schedule a reading with me here). on a more collective level, the Aquarius Solar Eclipse, perhaps, shows power to the people and possibly presents a warning to the king (although these days, that feels a bit like wishful thinking, but also, I have to remind myself of what I said about Mercury Retrograde in Pisces & feel like things might be too good to be true). Meanwhile, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries indicates that a new era is beginning. While there are many other potential ways to interpret this, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries could suggest a merging between fantasy & reality, which mirrors what I said before about Mercury Retrograde in Pisces being an ideal time to rewrite your past & create the future reality that you would wish for.

Mercury Direct in Pisces: 2026
Mercury will go Direct at 8'29° Pisces on March 20th, 2026. This should put an end to all of this confusion & miscommunication, or at least, we would hope. Of course, things may not fully get back to normal until after the post-shadow phase which ends on April 9th, 2026, or possibly even until Mercury leaves Pisces for the sign of Aries on April 15th. However, with Mercury finally direct in Pisces we should be able to see things more clearly, putting the lessons we learned into practice, and the reflections we've had over the retrograde period can now be used to make actual decisions.
In any case, for further insight into the energy of Mercury's Station Direct on March 20th, after being retrograde all of this time, it helps to take a look at the event chart for that day & the aspects involved. This may be able to give us give us further insight into the possible lessons to be taken from the retrograde too. I have attached an image of this chart below:

March 20th, 2026 happens to be the date of the Vernal Equinox or Spring Equinox, meaning the Sun will have just entered Aries, technically 0'11 at the time of Mercury's movement forward. The Sun makes a conjunction to both Neptune at 1'46 and Saturn at 4'09, emphasizing the overall themes of the ongoing Saturn-Neptune conjunction. The shift in energy from sign to sign might be felt pretty strongly, as instead of a Pisces stellium, we now have a Aries stellium on this date, with Venus conjunct the Moon and Chiron in Aries, as well.
This is essentially an energy of being ready to leave the past behind for a new beginning. While Pisces, as a mutable water sign ruled by Jupiter can be thought of us as more sort of dreamy & ethereal, Aries, as a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars, is wide awake & ready for action. In that sense, this energy mirrors the change between Mercury Retrograde, as a time for reflection, and Mercury Direct as a time for moving forward, making it more strongly felt. It is worth nothing too that the change of season from winter to spring is itself a sign of leaving the coldness & the darkness of the past behind for a bright & sunny new beginning. You may or may not know about the astrological "rule of 3's" concerning major events & predictions, but in any case, it means something when multiple signs seem to all point to the same thing.

Venus, the planet of love, played a big role in the event chart for the retrograde, as it was conjunction Mercury in Pisces. While Aries is technically the sign of its detriment, Venus at at 17'49 makes conjunction to the Moon at 23'22, suggesting that themes of love, beauty and emotions play a strong role in this chart too. This suggests that this Mercury Retrograde period will be deeply concerned with how we relate to each other interpersonally, especially in romantic relationships. Again, it could be that there are misunderstandings between you and your partner during the retrograde period but when Mercury goes Direct, you'll figure out how to resolve it. It could also be you learning from your past mistakes and knowing what you want now.
The conjunction of Venus & the Moon is an indicator of energy & enthusiasm in your relationships, and could bring out passionate feelings. or some, this could be an energy of independence, but it could also mean moving forward in your love life with more confidence. The involvement of Chiron, the wounded healer, at 25'03 Aries could suggest that there were wounds from the past that you're leaving behind along with this retrograde, in favor of moving toward something more healthy. In any case, this is an energy of embracing what's exciting & new with all of our heart!

Even with all of this fire, the water energy is still pretty strong, however. For example, Venus & the Moon in Aries both make a square to Jupiter (the ruling planet of Pisces, where the Mercury Retrograde takes place) in Cancer, where it will be also moving Direct. This shows big emotions may still be there, but there's a sense of being able to learn from the past rather than let it get you down. Of course, with Venus & the Moon in Aries, especially when square Jupiter, a planet that expands everything it touches, there is potential for impulsivity, and risky decision-making. So, while overall, the energy seems positive, there is potential danger, perhaps, in taking things to extremes or rushing into something new too fast and too soon.
Then, Mercury's still in Pisces, of course, but conjunct Aries ruling planet Mars at 14'20. So, once again, this shows that the more sensitive, emotional energy associated with Pisces is still there, but instead of sitting in our feelings, Mercury's movement Direct and conjunction to Mars, suggests that we're ready to actually do something about the way we are feeling. Mercury's Retrograde period has allowed us to look within & reflect, so now it is time to take action and make decisions to lead to healthier, happier emotions. Additionally, this aspect shows clarity, and even bluntness, with Mercury's move Direct. This shows the truth coming out, what was previously hidden & shrouded in mystery is now revealed. It may be because you've finally figured out how to put a name to what you're feeling, and now you feel more confident and courageous enough to speak up. In any case, this conjunction shows confidence & courage in moving forward.

Conclusion
As some of you may know, in the past, I used to write horoscopes with these things. However, I have been very busy and honestly, if you would like to know more about how this retrograde will affect you personally, you are better off scheduling a reading with me, by clicking here: but please remember to book at least three days in advance.
Apart from that, this Mercury in Retrograde period will most significantly affect those with angles or planets (particularly luminaries) between 6 and 25 degrees of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces). Overall, we can expect mishaps and misunderstandings to occur during this time, particularly in relation to our beliefs. However, it is a good time for re-examining what it is we truly believe in and why.
